The bumblebee was drawn from a natural specimen found resting on a windowsill at summer’s end. Rendering the delicate, fuzzy coat of the thorax required layered pencil work to capture its rich texture and dimension.
The scarce swallowtail relies on translucent delicate shading and bold black striping, allowing the luminous cream tone of the archival paper to shine through and bring the subject to life.

Height is the placement question I am asked about most, and the easiest to get wrong. Hang lower than you would for adults. A child looking at a picture is 100 to 120 cm off the floor, about 39 to 47 in, not 145 cm or 57 in. Art hung at adult height in a child’s room is decoration for the parents, and the child never really sees it.
Above a bed or a cot, use wall anchors rather than a picture hook. Keep the bottom edge at least 30 cm, about 12 in, above the headboard. Perspex glazing instead of glass is worth the small extra over a bed. Cot-side, the honest answer is to hang on the opposite wall.
